~Latin~ |
Latin 9 - Jr. High, 1 year, 1 unit
This course is designed for those students who
passed Latin 8 with a grade of B- or higher. Included will be the continued study of
vocabulary and the structure of the language as well as mythology and other areas of
cultural awareness associated with the language. |
Latin 10 - Sr. High, 1 year, 1 unit
Latin 10 is designed for the student who has
successfully completed the junior high school Latin sequence. The course will include a
more advance study of the structural analysis of Latin with continued emphasis on Roman
civilization and culture, and Roman and Greek Mythology. A school final examination wil I
be administered. |
Latin 11 - Sr. High, 1 year, 1 unit
Latin grammar is reviewed and the subjunctive mood is
introduced. Mythology readings include Cupid and Psyche. Opportunity is given to study and
appreciate Roman history and culture through the original words of statesmen such as
Julius Caesar and Marcus Cicero. Word derivation is an integral part of the curriculum.
Recommended to students who have completed Latin 10 with a final averages not less
than 75%. The Comprehensive Regents Examination is given at the end of this course. |
Latin 12 - Sr. High, 1 year, 1 unit
Students will spend first semester studying
Vergil's Aeneid and second semester studying Catullus, Horace and Martial. Study will
include meter, style, literary analysis and author's place in Latin and Western
literature. The variety of authors affords the students experience in many important
poetic genres: epic, elegiac, lyric, the epigram. |

~French Courses~ |
French I - Jr. High, 1 year, 1 unit
This course is an introduction to the use of authentic
French and the civilization of France with an emphasis on communicative proficiency.
Readings and writings are developed from what is first heard and spoken.
Open to students in grades 9-12 |
French II - Sr. High, 1 year, 1 unit
French 11 offers a further studv of the language and
culture of France with continued emphasis on communicative proficiency. French I is a
prerequisite.
Recommended to those who have completed French I with a final average of not less than
75%. |
French III - Sr. High, 1 year, 1 unit
The goal of this course is the development of
communicative proficiency. There is continued practice in listening and speaking with
increased emphasis on reading and writing. French culture is presented through dialogues,
readings, films and video tapes. French 11 is a prerequisite. The Comprehensive Regents
Examination will be administered at the conclusion of this course in June.
Recommended to those who have completed French II with a final averages of not less
than 75% |
French IV - Sr. High, 1 year, 1 unit
This advanced course offers a further studv of
French with continued practice in listening, speaking, reading and writing.
Prerequisite: French III with a final average of not less than 75% and a passing grade
on the Comprehensive Regents Examination |
French 9 - Jr. High, 1 year, 1 unit
Continued studv of the French language and
culture with continuing emphasis on communicative skills in listening, speaking, reading,
and writing.
Recommended to students who have completed grade 8 French with a final average of not
less than B- |
French 10 - Sr. High, 1 year, 1 unit
French 10 is designed for the student who has
successfully completed the junior high school French sequence. Its goal is the
development of communicative proficiency using Current idiomatic French. There is
continued practice in listening, speaking, reading and writing, French Culture is taught
bv dialogues, readings and video tapes. A school final examination will be administered in
June. |
French 11 - Sr. High, 1 year, 1 unit
French I I is designed for the student who
began studv in grade seven and who has completed French 10. Communicative proficiency in
listening, speaking, reading and writing is developed at a more advanced level on a wider
scope of topics taken from the New York State Svllabus for Modern Foreign languages.
Cultural awareness is developed bv dialogues, readings, videotapes, and movies. The
Comprehensive Regents Examination in French will be administered at the conclusion of this
course in June. |
College French 12 (Honors)- Sr. High, 1 year, 1 unit and College Option
This advanced course offers instruction in
advanced grammar and composition in conjunction with SUNY curriculum standards. Students
will cover a varietv of topics designed to meet their interests and talents and will read
I short stories, newspaper and magazine articles, prepare frequent written and oral
exposes, watch and discuss videotapes. A study of one major literarv work is required. The
Course is conducted in French. Students who satisfactorily, complete the course receive
one high school credit. As an option, students can receive College Credit. In
conjunction with SUNY standards, a final average of C and tuition payment, students will
receive 3 credits on a SIJNY transcript. |

~German Courses~ |
German 9 - Jr. High, 1 year 1 unit
Further study of the Gemian language and culture with
continuing emphasis on communicative skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing.
Recommended to students who have completed grade 8 German with a final average of not
less than B- |
German 10 - Sr. High, 1 year 1 unit
Gemian 10 is designed for the student who has
successfully completed the junior high school German sequence. its goal is the development
of communicative proficiency using current idiomatic German. There is continued practice
in listening, speaking, reading and writing. German culture is taught by dialogues,
reading and video tapes. Opportunities for a German exchange (German American Partnership
Program - 3 weeks and Congress Bundestag Exchange - one year) are available at the end of
grade 10 or I 1. A school final examination will be administered in June. |
German 11 - Sr. High, 1 year 1 unit
German 11 is a course designed for the student who has
successfully completed the junior high school Gemian sequence and Geniiaii 10.
Communicative proficiency in listening, speaking, reading and writing is developed at a
more advanced level on a wider scope of topics taken from the New York State Syllabus for
Modem Foreign Languages. Cultural awareness is developed by dialogues, reading, video
tapes, and movies. The Comprehensive Regents Examination in German will be administered at
the conclusion of this course in June |
College German 12 (Honors) - Sr. High, 1 year 1 unit
This advanced course is designed to offer enrolled
students a variety of topics in order to meet their interests and talents. This includes
grammar review and writing assignments in combination with the study of German literature,
art, music, history and contemporary social issues. Audio cassettes, VCR tapes and guest
speakers supplement the curriculum. As an option, students may receive College
Credit
Prerequisite: German 11, a final average of 75% and a passing grade on the
Comprehensive Regents Examination |

~Spanish Courses~ |
Spanish I - Jr. High, 1 year, 1 unit
This course is an introduction to the use of
Spanish and the civilization of Spain and of the Latin American countries with emphasis on
listening and speaking according to the communicative approach. Reading and writing are
developed from what is first heard and spoken.
Open to students in grades 9-12 |
Spanish II - Sr. High, 1 year, 1 unit
Spanish 11 offers a further studv of the
Spanish with continued emphasis on listening and speaking, but with increasing emphasis on
reading and writing.
Recommended to students who have completed Spanish I with a final average of not less
than 75% |
Spanish III - Sr. High, 1 year, 1 unit
The goal of this course is the development of
corn municative proficiency using structural anaivsis and conversational Spanish. There is
added emphasisi is on reading and composition as well as preparation for the Comprehensive
Regents Examination which is administered at the end of the course.
Recommended to students who have completed Spanish II with a final average of 75% |
Spanish IV - Sr. High, 1 year, 1 unit
This advanced course offers a continuation of
structural analysis of the Spanish language, with emphasis on conversation, oral
presentation, cultural projects, written and oral analysis of literary and videotaped
materials.
Prerequisite: Spanish III with a 75% average and a passing grade on the Comprehensive
Regents Examination. |
Spanish IB - Jr. High, 1 year, 1 unit
The focus of this course is communication
and culture. It is designed for and should be chosen only by the student who intends
to end the study of Spanish after the 2 mandatory years of study, and who has unique needs
in language study.
Permission of Department Adminstrator required. |
Spanish 9 - Jr. High, 1 year, 1 unit
Continued study of the Spanish language and culture
with continuing emphasis on communicative skills in listening, speaking, reading and
writing.
